Question:
Should there be an alternative solution for people who won't / don't pay child support?

A guy I know got way behind in child support... then, was willing to pay, but was afraid to be "on the grid" by working a descent job - garnishments, etc.. so he started working "under the table jobs." We had a discussion where he said he'd be willing to work doing something like mowing lawns at the courthouse and let them pay his pay to the EX and child...

Do you think the state should have a "work" program for people who can't pay child support to do basic necessary jobs (which they would pay other people to do) and apply that work to their owed child support?

If you owe child support, would you participate in a program of this nature?

No, the best thing to do is to get it caught up. Those babies need support, lots of single mothers never see a dime and get no help at all. It is irresponsible to expect special work exceptions for parents (mom or dads) who don't help take care of their kids. Him being on the 'Grind' is far better then his babies being without their needs..It really isn't fair. The only alternative I would see are condoms that don't break..sorry it's just not fair....Best Wishes

It's not the states job to create jobs for dead beat dads. The best thing to do if your going to make babies and run is to pay your child support on time in the first place. I personally have no sympathy for dead beats. There is ALWAYS something that a guy can do to earn money for child support. Don't ever believe a guy that says "but I cant find a job." If he cant find anything, then hows he living? I knew a guy one time that couldn't get work, so you know what he did? He went to his ex and said "Hey you pay 150. a week for child care right? Well let me watch the child for you and you credit my child support the normal 105. that I'm supposed to pay." In the end she saved 45. each week until he found work and he was able to really bond with his little girl. So you see, there is always something. As far as garnishments? So what? He owes it!

Here would be the easiest solution to guarantee men pay for their kids. PAY OR BE CASTRATED! Be a man and take care of your responsibilities. So "the guy you know" got behind on child support and is now going to work under the table to pay it? How is the state going to be able to keep a record of it if its off the books? They can't and he will get stuck with a higher back log of child support, in addition if the state does find out oh man he is really going to ge the shaft.

He knew the cost of a child before he helped make one I hate dead beat parents because i deal with one on a regular basis mine has been to jail still didn't help. Now he has to maintain a job and my money is taken out automatically.. However they have the county lawns mowed by jail inmates so its not costing them anything in the state i am in your friend needs to be a man and pay his child support.

Your friend should grow up and take care of his responsibilities instead of working for cash to shirk them.

I do not believe the state would have any more success in collecting child support by offering jobs where the pay would go directly to the ex and kids.

The problem isn't that these people can't work, it's that they choose not to.

Pay up, any way he can, if there was something the state could come up with they would. They have but it is not the alternative you are looking for, it is called jail.

He needs to be in jail or under the jail it is the kids who suffer.

Just pray he does not make a child with you

How about picking up trash on the highway in an orange jump suit? Get real.
