help. Need advise on how to go about getting a divorce. I was pretty young when I got married, actually got married in Las Vegas and got seperated right after we got married, unfortunately I don't know where my ex lives since we have not kept in touch.

I don't know where she lives and have tried to contact her at the last known address.

My wife was a lot older than me and I was in college on the opposite coast when we got married, I was young and stupid.

And we have been seperated for 6 years of the 6 years we were married. I came to America for an education and left last year when I was done, I need to get a divorce but don't know to go about getting it, since I no longer live in America.

Please help, all advise is welcomed and appreciated.

Hmmmmm, that's a tricky one. If you are not planning on returning to the US it should not be an issue, as the True Faith and Credit clause only applies within the US. If however you are planning on returning and living here then you should contact an attorney here in the states and begin the process. There are provisions for gaining a divorce without knowing where the other party is, but those provisions vary from state to state.

Get in touch with the county in which you received your marriage license and ask about what you need to do to get a divorce. I believe you can divorce someone by what is called "default." In the U.S., depending on the particular state's laws, you can file for divorce and list "abandonment" as the reason by explaining that you do not know if your spouse is dead or alive, which is probably true in your case.

Better: If you know her last address, then the petition for divorce can be sent there or forwarded by the post office to her new address. With computers these days, finding people isn't all that difficult especially if you have her full name, last known address, and date of birth. I'd also contact a divorce lawyer with experience in internationals and aliens going through a divorce. Good luck.

First thing there is no such thing as a quick and easy divorce so I am not going to lie to you. You need to seek counsel from a lawyer or some other representative of your legal community. He/she can help you get and start the paper work. There is going to be alot of paper work, especially in your situation, so quit putting it off and get to it. One other thing you will need to prove that you have been sperated for all of those 6 years, there are number of ways to do that, but I am sure that whoever you contact will be better qualified to help you being as I am not from your country.

I think that you can go file, and as long as it is not contested by the other..or if they do not respond at all I believe it can go through, but possible try a google search on the laws of divorce for more accurate info.

The kind of advice you are asking is rather expensive. You need an investigator.

If you can't find her you can do a divorce by publication

Contact a lawyer and have your marriage annulled.
