When I see those I only see smarta$s answers from us westerners who don't subscribe to that belief system, but I never see a real answer. Anyone know how they do this? Is it just astrology?

Also - 2nd part...

Ever think that people in India who go along with this are generally happy because they consider their lives fate, outside of their control, and thus just accept it and work with what they have?

I know an Indian astrologer who does this kind of computation for all things from birth to death. He is very accurate in his calculations and the advice he gives. Yes, people who have this belief system are generally happier and kharma plays a great part too. It's incredibly arrogant for westerners to think they have all the answers and that other people's beliefs aren't worthwhile.

It's Vedic astrology - "Jyotish" is the word. Very very similar to western astrology, but it's got a big hindu tie-in and honestly there's a lot of math & astronomic measurements involved.

You can get a computer program "Shri Jyoti Star" and put in your birthday & longitude/latitude coordinates, and it will throw up a moving map of the stars & show how each planetary "house" relates to the other depending on where they were when you were born.

It doesn't change the fact that it IS astrology: thinking that the position of the stars has an influence on human behavior. So it's hard for us Western rationalists to stomach.

...also, from what I've seen, people who believe in this are no more or less happy than anyone else.

A lot of western religions also believe your life is ordained from the time you are born. Everything good and bad that happens to you is God's will and you can do nothing to change it.

If you subscribe to a similar belief system, then you will just have to wait to see if God has marriage in your future or not. No one knows the will of God.

It must be astrology...I never answer those questions with rude comments. It's a little romantic, in a surface kind of way, isn't it?

I wonder how they answer using astrology when they don't know the details of the other...

Yes, using fate as the guiding method of your life could make one be more accepting...after all, if not forced to rely on making decisions, one then can't blame one's self for mistakes.

My life has been forecast, and I just follow along blindly. Of course the astrologist who gave me my life's destiny course, she was high on LSD. But in the 70's that was normal.

apparently they can't figure it out on their own so they turn to astrology
