I must rephase my question, my ex doesnt want to drop his name from the kids names but hyphenation doesnt seem like a good alternative either.
Pink WASNT ok while we were married, he always wanted to change it too, but we never did! I dont want to ask my ex ti drop his families name all together but it makes for really silly hockey jerseys and Staples thinks its funny to give the kids all PINK notebooks in their school supply kits! People are RUDE! "hey Pink, why is your name on that womans butt?" Its constantly obnoxious and my ex understands! Im not trying to do it without his permission Im just trying to figure out how to make Pink, better and how to share my name with my kids. My ex's side of the family isnt involved in our lives and never has been, not sure why we ever used the name really, i guess because we were married at 19 and we didnt even think about it. But as its become a hassel for our kids and Victoria Secret keeps writing it on butts, its becoming more of a problem.

Leave the children's name alone. It's their name. You never had an issue with it before so just leave it alone now.

You need to get his legal permission to change it to anything at all. If he wants his family name in it your only option is to keep it or hyphenate it…. you don't get to be all sneaky and somehow work it out if he doesn't want it out.

You don't give us your last name so we can't see how stupid the hyphenation apparently looks.

You say you don't want to change it without his permission but everything you say is that you want the name out completely and you are just looking for a way to convince him.

You could always fight it through court to get his name removed because your children are apparently humiliated by it but you'll spend a pretty penny on something so petty.

I think you should ask the kids which name they prefer to have...talk with your ex and see what he thinks about that

Not a bad premise for a comedy routine.
