LMAO @ the suggested category.

Yes my wife can drive a stick. She's an 88M in the National Guard(Big Wheel truck driver). She can drive a pretty good stick in the bedroom as well ; )

I used to teach stick shift driving classes back in my single days. All my ex's can drive sticks, that's for sure. lol

ADD- KBrownie: Yeah, I had to bring back the battlefield. Word is there is a need for a troop surge due to the increase of pies in the battlefield. I'll have to get Shake over to HQ and we'll post your SOP's and designated foxholes. BTW, you and AhManDuh need to report to my foxhole for a de-briefing ; )

I'm sure I've handled more "sticks" than my husband. I'm quite good at it. I like the powerful feeling when I'm shifting gears.

Yes. I can drive a standard. I preferred an automatic when our children were babies, due to need to reach back and keep a hand on the baby now and then. Now that our children are older, I don't have a preference (aside from resale value).

I think your husband may be a bit sexist or old if he is under the impression that most women cannot drive a standard.

I'll admit that my wife learned on a stick shift. Her first car was a 1978 Ford Mustang and later she traded that in for a newer Mustang (both were stick shifts) and she wouldn't have had it any other way. In the beginning of our relaitonship it sucked, as she wouldn't let me drive her car, since I was not experienced with driving a stick. I never really learned how to drive a stick. The point is, I really didn't need to, as all my cars were automatic. She took me out one day and taught me. I thought she was going to lose patience, as the car kept dying and I know at that time, she didn't have any money to be spending on a new clutch if I were to mess it up. We'll, eventually I got the hang of it, but she still wasn't comfortable with me driving her car around (except for around the block). When it was time to trade her stick shift Mustang in (we had been married a year by then) and decided to get a newer car, but this time, automatic, so we both could drive it.

I'll admit, my ego was at an all time low, knowing she could drive stick and I couldn't, but today, I'm not embarrased to admit.

How could I do my mascara if I had to have one hand on the wheel and the other on the stick? The better question is...why would anyone want to? Does it save money or something? I didn't realize they still made cars with that feature. Automatic works great. I'd be even happier if the car would just drive itself so I could be free to do other things.

I do know how to drive a stick, in theory. The hubby taught me years and years ago.

She had one when we met! When the first baby came along we got a small SUV and it was stick too. When we moved up to full size SUV the stick option is not available so now she drives auto!

My big F250 Crew Cab is a 5 speed and my wife drives it on occasion too!

SO my wife is very capable of driving stick!

Stick shifting can be a gender bending endeavor, considering how well that stick is manhandled, so the suggested category makes sense to me.

On that note, my wife was driving a standard when she and I met...She works a stick like nothing I've ever...oh never mind. Who am I kidding? That's the ONLY stick I've seen her work.

I can drive a stick shift. My first car was one and I've had a couple standards since then. And might I add, I am damn good at it too. They are fun to drive because you have more control over the speed and acceleration of the vehicle.

Oh, and I can also drive a "stick shift" damn good, too. *wink* Just ask my husband and all his friends...um...wait a minute...

I am the wife, but wayyyyyy back in my youth I learned to drive on a stick. They didn't have automatics back then. Guess I gave my age away. When I meet my husband, I had to teach him how to drive one. I am driving one now.

Got 90,000 miles on the clutch too.

when I first met her, she had a six speed VW R-32.

The engine blew, and with kids, we switched it to 5 sp 4 runner. (had to look all over the country for one in manual transmission, over paid it by 3k)
