Well, it actually refers to gravity, but people use it in life to show how there is often a balance. For all the joy in life there has to be an equal amount of sadness. I guess for all the pride an equal amount of humility. It means balance in all things.

i dont believe religion is as big a factor as it may have been 40 yrs ago.I think society is less religious than it was then. Community activities used to be based around the chuch (at least in small town america) where today they are more based around school activities. The church i grew up going to back in the 70s has no young people the average age of the worshippers is probably 70.My parents generation are still considered the young people and they are in their 60s.

But who is to decide where is up and where is down. If I say that the sky is up, the person in the orbit sees it on the contrary. A person's pride has a reason or background and it goes up and down based on the up and down of the reason or background

What are you referring to in 'marriage and divorce catogory? Pride. Well if its pride and since 'pride' is not a physical thing it may not come down. Only physical things go up and down.
